CYCLING AT INGLEWOOD

GREAT FINISH OF ROAD EVENT. L. STANDING WINS KAIMATA RACE. The Inglewood Cycle Club held the second of ; its series of races for the club cup yesterday afternoon, when a race to Kaimata and back was held. A good field faced the starter, and the competitors were started in six bunches. Very fast time was made on the outward journey, the riders being assisted by the wind. The first to turn for the homeward trip, R. . Kennedy and D. Fields, were closely followed by the 3m. and 2}m. bunch. Three-quarters of a minute later E. Standing and F. Fussell turned, followed a minute later by the scratch riders. The field quickly closed in and at Surrey Road the 3Jm., 3im., 3m. and 2sm. men, all bunched* were closely fol-

lowed by the Um. and im. men. A large crowd gathered to see the finish and was rewarded with an exciting contest. All riders made an excellent finish, and in the final sprint five riders were within three lengths. When the first riders crossed the line the last man was not 75 seconds behind. The sprint for the honours was 'a great tussle, won. by L. Standing (3m.) by half a wheel. C. Burke gained fastest time.

Results are:— L Standing , 3m., 1; R. Kennedy, 3Jm., 2- H Graham, 2|m., 3; R. Benard, 2im., 4-’ Fields, 5; E. Standing, IJim,

6; F. Fussell, IJm., 7; C. Burke,, scr., 8. C. Burke’s tiipe for the race was 26m. 30s. He holds the record for the race, 24m. 40s. Cup points are: R. Benard- 3, R. Kennedy 3, H. Graham 3, L. Standing 3,. C.Burke 2. The number who have points in the cup (only two races having been held) shows excellence of the handicapping. . The next race will be around the Kaimiro triangle, a distance of 12 miles. W. K. Weir, well-known Christchurch rider, will be a competitor. ,
