BRIXTON NOTES
WOMEN’S DIVISION BIRTHDAY. The Brixton branch of the Women’s Division of the Fanners’ Union celebrated its first birthday on Tuesday at St. John’s hall,- Waitara. There were 130 present, including members from Bell Block, Lepperton, Inglewood, Tarurutangi and New Plymouth brandies and the Tikorangi Women’s Institute. A short programme was given as follows: Pianoforte solo, Mrs. Hunger; recitation, Mrs. Brown (New Plymouth), and song by Mrs. Turner (Waitara). A one-act play, “Between the Soup and the Savoury,” was performed by the Misses Higgins, Limmer and Lash, members of the branch. It was well acted and most amusing. y .. Afternoon tea was in charge of MrsStreet. The birthday cake with its one candle was in a place of honour. Mrs. McPhillips, New Plymouth, president of the youngest branch represented, lit the candle. The presidents of the visiting branches congratulated Brixton on achieving its first birthday and on the splendid afternoon’s entertainment. Mrs. McCaul, president, thanked the performers, Mrs. Limmer and Miss Mcßae for making and decorating the cake, and Mrs. Limmer, who tastefully decorated the tables.
