CANTERBURY CARPENTRY TRADE.

"It (Joes not seem reasonable at a time when the economic outlook is more favourable to make wages reductions that will operate for at least five years, states a judgment of the Arbitration Court on an application by North Canterbury employers for a reduction m the rates of pay for apprentices to the carpentery and joinery trades. The Court refused the application, stating that the standard rates had already been reduced 10 per cent, under the general order of May, 1931. It could not be said that the present rates, which commence at 13s 6d weekly, were too high.
