TARANAKI HOCKEY CONTROL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR MATCHES.

A meeting of the Taranaki Hockey Association committee was held at Eltham last night, Mr. H. C. Johnson presiding. The New Plymouth men's association was granted permission to hold a seven-ja-side tournament at New Plymouth on July 29. - The Waipa association advised acceptance of July 20 as a date for the Nordon Cup challenge match. Dealing with a protest from Tariki against a match being awarded to Waitara on the ground of short time being played, the committee received a report from the referees that the. time played was correct. The Waitara club offered to replay the match without admitting that the time was short.

It was decided to dismiss the protest and return the fee lodged. The Rev. W. B. Cumming, Messrs. Byron, R. Grant and Bennett were appointed a sub-committee" to make arrangements for the Nordon Cup match at Waitara next Thursday. It was proposed that a curtain-raiser be anranged between New PlymouthWaitara and Te Atiawa ladies teams. The Rev. J. A. Rybum was elected referee for the Nordon Cup match. The question of junior finals was discussed and it was" decided to play the semi-final between Stratford High School and Mangatoki on July 27 at Eltham. Messrs. Ebbett and Priest were appointed referees. The final was fixed for August 2 or 3, the place to be left in abeyance. The senior finals will be between the divisional winners, Kaponga, Egmont Stratford . and Wanderers. Wednesday, July 26, at Kaponga, was fixed as the time and place for the semi-final between Kaponga and Egmont, and Saturday, July 22. at Stratford for the game between Stratford and Wanderers. Mr. Pennington and the Rev. J. A. Ryburn, and Messrs. McDowall and Johnson were appointed referees for the respective matches. The question of Taranaki entering for the New Zealand, Hockey Association’s Challenge Shield was raised by the president, who thought Taranaki would be able to hold its own with the bigger associations. It was found, however, that a team was not eligible to play both for the Challenge Shield and the Nordon Cup in the same year. Mr. McFadyen submitted a statement of the Horowhenua-Taranaki match showing a credit balance of £2.
