QUARTERLY MEETING HELD. ■ > ■ ,<• -C-. '■ i GOOD PROGRESS REPORTED. The quarterly meeting of the Mawera Methodist Church was held on Wednesday night, about 30 attending. The Rev. Basil Metson presided and the business of the meeting' opened with prayef led by Mrs. Barkla. Sympathy was Repressed with the relatives of the late Mrs. J. Drynan and with Mrs.. S. Barkla in the loss of her infant daughter. It was resolved that a letter of appreciation be sent to ’ the Rev. G.’ S. Cook, who . filled the Hawera .pulpit prior to the arrival of Mr. Metson. The meeting also' expressed its pleasure at the work of Mr. Metson since his induction, and the congregation and -officers pledged themselves to support him in every way possible. A welcome was extended to Mr. H. Whitlock, who has taken oyer the charge of the Sunday school in place of Mr.-G« Barkla, who has leit the dis-, trict. ' ir

In response to the Rev. Blanchard’s appeal for the New Zealand-Alliance: it • was decided "that a retiring collection be taken and the proceeds forwarded to Mr. Blaneha’rd. It was resolved that a meeting of the men of the church be called at the the close of a'-Sunday evening service shortly" to discuss the formation of a men’s -fellowship • circle. - Several names were deleted from the membership " roll of the" church, and 29 seniors and three, juniors,'; the latter having been received into full membership at a special reception held on a recent Sunday evening, were added. The quarterly statement, of church finances was' placed before members, and it was resolved that a:sub-commit-tee be appointed to consider the matter of circuit'debt reduction. Mr. E. J. Yearbury was deputed" to act as convener. Members expressed appreciation of an anonymous donation of two dozen communion • " . A discussion ensued on the Subject of an alteration to the Hawera ‘ circuit plan, and the matter ultimately was referred to the finance committee. Mr. J. Hey submitted a report on for- ■ eign missions and mentioned that the ' funds in hand were less than for the two previous, years. Sunday school reports were received as follow: — Hawera: Membership 114 with 13 teachers and officers, including Mr. J. Hey, recently received as tehcher. Normanby: Average attendance 35; a social .was held recently to welcome Mr. Metsori. Oharigai: Membership 16; six members left owing to their removal from - the district. Ohawe: Membership. 25, average attendance; 18; brie member left - owing to removal from the district. Tawhiti: Membership 25 and good progress reported, appreciation being expressed of the services Tendered by Mr. G. Barkla during" his term as superintendent. The young women’s Bible .class reported steady progress and increased mem-' bership. Eleven members were made members of the church during the month. •' ■„ The senior young men’s Bible class reported an attendance of 17, with an average attendance of 12. The junior club had a membership of 30 and met weekly, while the recently-formed Haeremai Club had a steadily increasing membership and also met weekly.
