FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT
DRIVER DENIES NEGLIGENCE.
ALLEGATION OF INTOXICATION.

Arthur Heldamond de Lisle was charged to-day with being a charge of a motor-car while he was in a state of intoxociation and negligently driving it, thereby causing the death of Alfred Hicks. The charge arose out of an accident outside the woollen mills at Petone on June 2. De Lisle pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trail. Bail was allowed. The inquest was adjourned as was the hearing of a further charge of driving a car while in a state of intoxication.
The evidence showed that Hicks was walking along the bitumen paving on a night described as dark and was knocked down by a car which witnesses said was travelling at a high speed.
