They are the first instalment towards meeting the applications from- New Plymouth registered unemployed who are taking advantage of the Unemployment Board’s scheme for distributing a pair of boots in return for a day’s work. The Labour Department’s buildings presented the appearance of a miniature boot warehouse yesterday morning, rows of men’s boots being displayed around the walls. To date the number of applications received at New Plymouth is about 330. The boots to hand will not, therefore, meet all the applications received to date, and in the meantime the boots will be distributed only, to those men who have returned to the department the completed forms . certifying that they have given the necessary day’s work. The instalment of boots to hand will just be sufficient to fulfil these orders. The boots consist of dress boots and bluchers, both tan and black, and the sizes are 5,6, 7,8, 9 and 10. One pair of 4’s was requisitioned for, but this size is not in stock. The boots are of excellent quality and should prove serviceable wearing. Distribution of the boots to hand will foe started to-day. The men are notified, that it will be necessary for them to make their own provision for wrapping the boots.
