WAIROA SUB-UNION RUGBY
CUP CONTEST CONCLUDED. REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES. Saturday saw the end of the Rugby cup competition in the Wairoa Subunion, the winner of the competition being Waverley with ten wins. The team was unbeaten. Saturday’s results were: Ngutuwera 24 v. Rauru 11, Kai Iwi 14 v. Up River 0. Waverley won by default from Waitotara. Mr. H. D. Forsyth, president of the sub-union, presented the cup to the captain of the Waverley team, M. Hammond, and congratulated the team on its fine performance in not losing a game of the ten played and scoring 199 points against 23 points. The captain of the Waverley team replied. Following is the position of the teams at the end of the contest:—
Next Saturday at Waitotara the Possibles v. Probables match will be played in view of the representative match against Wanganui B at Waitotara on July 29. The management of the sub-union met last week, the following members being present: Messrs. I. W. Blackie, J. Hurley, T. Robinson, J. A. McGlade, A. E. Symes, E. W. Lee, H. W. Forsyth and G. Simpson. The Waitotara club was granted a refund of one nomination fee in the seven-a-side tournament. It was decided to accept July 29 as the date to play Wanganui B gtpresentatives. It was arranged to play a Possibles v. Probables trial game at Waitotara on July 15, and on the following Saturday the selected team would play a fifteen chosen from the rest at Waverley. Permission was granted Waverley to play the Tukapa team, New Plymouth, the Ngutuwera team to play a Wanganui team, and the Maori representatives to go to Marton to play for the Whenuaroa Shield. The Wednesday afternoon football team played a Patea team on Wednesday and after a very even and exciting game emerged winners by one point. The final score was Waitotara 15, Patea 14. PRIMARY SCHOOL GAMES PLAYED. In a primary schools’ competition Rugby football match Westown defeated Inglewood at Inglewood by 21 points to nil. In a friendly game between the B teams of the same schools Westown defeated Inglewood by 8 points to 6. In a match in the C grade of the competition West End drew with Fitzroy, both sides scoring an unconverted try. HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS PLAY. New Plymouth High School A defeated High School B by 38 points to nil in a fifth grade match played last week. SCHNEIDER SHIELD GAME. KAIMATA DEFEATS DURHAM. In a Schneider Shield Rugby match at Waitui on Saturday Kaimata defeated Durham by 6 points to nil. Kaimata was two players short and Durham three. Play was left in the hands of the packs for the most part, with relieving back movements. There was no score at halftime, but the second spell saw J. Strachurski and G. Scott score from dribbling rushes. Neither try was converted.
