FITZROY RATEPAYERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION., . RESIGNATION OF SECRETARY. The monthly meeting of the Fitzroy Ratepayers’ Association was held last night, when there were present Messrs. L. N. Fairhall (chairman), J. A. Burr (honorary secretary), G. S. Giddy; A. Pierce, W.-S. Brinsley, C. H. Burton and A. J. Chainey. The meeting appointed Messrs. Burton and Fairhall a deputation to wait oh the Borough Council to ascertain what pro- ( gross had been made with the new stock route. , A complaint was received that there was a large number of dogs without collars in the district, and that they were becoming a nuisance. Mr. Chainey moved that the attention of the council be called to the matter. The numbering of the houses in Fitz- . roy was another thing that needed urgent consideration by the council, it was stated. ; It was remarked that for 20 years Darnell Street had received no attention,* and in view of the fact -that a public hall was situated in the street the meeting felt that some improvement should be made in its appearance. The question of the disposal of spoil accumulated as the result of clearing the gutters was considered, it being contended that instead of being carried away the earth' should be used to fill up hollows in the side of the road. Mr. Brinsley complained of the inadequacy of the drainage in front of his property in Waiwaka Terrace. It was reported that opposite Mr. Johnstone’s garage in Fitzroy Road there was a deep drain that, being out of place, ■was a danger to the public. A number of other complaints were received and are to be recommended to the Borough Council for attention. The inconvenience of several changes made in the newly-arranged wintertimetable for the tramwys was the subject of discussion. Mr. Brinsley stated that a certain amount of regular custom was lost through the the running five minutes earlier of the tram which formerly left Fitzroy at 1.50 p.m., and which was. regularly used by business people during the lunch-hour. While realising the difficulties entailed in arranging the timetable in the interests of economy, the association decided to ask the council if anything could be done to make the service more. convenient. • Mr. Burr tendered his resignation of the position of secretary to the association. The meeting accepted the resignation with regret, but arranged that Mr. Burr should continue as secretary until the next meeting. . . . .\ : In spite of new kerbing recently cqn-;. structed by the Borough, Council. *in, : Clemow Road,, it ws reported that-the condition of Clemow Road was very little better. The kerbing was . satisfactory, but a channel for drainage of stormwater had not been cleared, nd. the water was still running down the middle of the road. ~
