OLD TIMERS’ CARNIVAL DANCE

SUCCESS AT TIKORANGI HALL.

The Tikorangi Hall presented a very animated appearance last night on the occasion of the “old-time carnival” staged by ex-Tikorangi members of the Waitara Municipal Band in aid of the band’s funds. An energetic committee of young people had entered with enthusiasm into the arrangements, and with flags and ponga fronds artistically arranged around the walls and the ceiling decorated with streamers, coloured lights, Chinese lanterns and balloons, a judicious blending of light and colour had transformed the hall into a ballroom that made a fitting setting for the colourful dresses. z

It was pleasing to note that the efforts of the committee met with an appreciative response, there being a large attendance of dancers. Excellent music was played by Rowe’s Old-time Dance Band. With all “old-time” dances the master of ceremonies, Mr. Ivan Vickery, kept matters merrily moving, the crowded state of the floor showing the popularity of the dances. Paper hats and streamers added a carnival touch. Extras were played by Misses I. Foreman and E. Parker. The, supper room had been decorated with nikau fronds and the tables with vases of spring flowers and wattle. Supper was served by a ladies’ committee comprising Mesdames H. A. Foreman and J. H. Paulger, Misses I. Foreman, K. Faull and I. Paulger (honorary secretary), members of St. Luke’s Anglican. Church ladies’ social committee, who were sharing in tire proceeds of the function. Members of the Waitara Municipal Band acted as waiters. The carnival hat competition was won by Miss E. Draper (Motunui) and Mr. A. Erb (New Plymouth). The committee responsible for the organisation of the dance comprised Messrs M. R. Faull, V. Foreman, J. Hills, R. Rolf, M. Ewart and W. L. Faull (honorary secretary).
