THUNDERSTORM IN ENGLAND. BLACKPOOL TOWER STRUCK. British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. London, July 9. Although the spell of hot weather has been broken in southern England, severe thunderstorms were experienced over a large area in the north. Five deaths by lightning are reported, and considerable damage was done in the Manchester area. The Blackpool tower, which is one of the best known landmarks in the famous seaside resort, was struck but the flash travelled harmlessly down the pillars to the bottom of the lift well.
