WAITARA BEACH SOCIETY
LAYING OF TENNIS COURTS. There was a large attendance at the special meeting of the Waitara Seaside Improvement and Surf Bathing Society last night. Tenders for the laying down of two tennis courts were placed before the committee by a tenderer. A committee was appointed to investigate the position. The chairman said that the opportunity should be taken as it was an excellent chance to secure a good price and with the courts completed they would be revenue-producing. Mr- Nosworthy thought the society should wait till they had money in hand.
Mr. Hamlin agreed with Mr. Nosworthy and thought that the committee should wait a little. Mr. A. Chadwick thought the tennis committee should meet to arrange ways, and means of seeing what support the scheme will be given.
The secretary read a letter about the society’s signs and it was decided to have them painted.
Members objected to a remark previously . made by the Mayor (Mr. J. Hine) that the picnic part of the' beach was not in the condition it should be.
