LADIES’ GUILD GARDEN PARTY. SPORTS AND GENERAL ITEMS; (From Our Own Correspondent.) The garden party held by the Warea Ladies’ Guild at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. F. Sole sen. proved a great success. Although the weather was overcast a large number of people attended. The gardens were much admired and the stalls, which had been arranged on the verandahs, did a brisk trade. Afternoon tea was served in the diningroom and sitting-room. An orchestra played selections and other items were songs by Mrs. W. Hopkins (Rahotu) and a pianoforte solo by Mr. E. Davies. The ladies who helped at the various stalls and with afternoon tea were Mrs. F. Sole, Mrs. B. Anderson, Mrs. D. Wells, Mrs. C. Sole, Mrs. J. Goodin, Mrs. W. Caldwell, Mrs. J. Sole and Miss Corbett, Misses R. Goodin, M. Sole, J. Anderson, R. and N. Wells and J. Lewis.

A cooking competition judged by Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Willcox (Rahotu) created considerable interest. Results are:— Plain sponge, Mrs. W. Caldwell; mixed cakes, six varieties, Mr. E. Davis; shortbread, Mrs. W. Caldwell; scones, Mrs. W. Caldwell; pikelets, Mrs. J. Goodin; points prize, Mrs. W. Caldwell. Competitions were won by the following:—Travelling rug, Mrs. B. Doyle; cake' knives, donated by Mr. J. Lobb, Mr. J. Goodin; duchess set donated by Mr. E. Davis, Mrs. F. Sole sen.; cake donated by Miss Corbett, Mrs. D. Wells. The success of the function was mainly due to the untiring efforts of the secretary of the guild (Mrs. F. Sole). The gross takings amounted to £l9. In the evening Mr. and Mrs. F. Sole entertained a number of friends. The older people played cards while the younger ones danced to music played by Misses M. Sole, F. and K. Julian and Mr. B. Anderson.

On Saturday members of the Warea School Committee entertained their wives and families, and the teachers, at a tennis afternoon on the new grass court at the school. After a number of sets had been played afternoon tea was served.

Playing at Auroa on Saturday the Warea A bowling team was defeated by six points. Scores are:— A. W.

Ross, Shearing, Bradford, Kilpatrick (s) 34 — Julian, Gray, Andrews, Kupe (s) — 27 Duff, Webby, Ross, Corry (s) . 21 — Kira, Harts, Muir, Lawn (s) .. — 22 The Warea B team played a friendly match with Opunake at Warea. The match had to be abandoned because of rain, at which stage the scores were:— O. W. Laing, Lambie, Olliver, Smith (s) 7 — Bredin, Eaves, Tito, Henderson (s) — 17 Edmonds, Peat, Hickey, Moran (s) 21 — Edwards, Sole, Wi, Brookes (s) — 10 Miss F. Chapman has returned home. Mrs. Bairett has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. J. Sole.
