NEW PLYMOUTH OPERA HOUSE.

“THE ROSARY” TO-DAY. The story of “The Rosary” has been brought up to date in the English film, which will be screened at the Opera House, New Plymouth, to-day and tomorrow, and a very fine cast succeeds in producing an impressive drama, none the less appealing because it might have happened yesterday. It is difficult for any actress to portray the high-souled person who is too good to be true with conviction, but Margot Grahame, as Mary Edwards, carries the ideal of the self-sacrificing sister through to the show down, which proves her erring sister the stronger character, remarkably well Elizabeth Allen as Vera Manning, the wayward one, acts Splendidly. She is prepared to sacrifice everything to her own happiness, until it is practically safeguarded, and then she .finds she cannot accept it at the cost of her sister’s taking the veil wjth a broken heart. Walter Piers, as the father of the two girls (Captain Mannering) is a delightfully cheerful unmoral person, who lives by forgery and blackmail with as good a grace as though he were the hail-fellow modern missioner. Charles Groves, as Homett, his butler, whose evidence plays a strong part in a realistic court scene, does no end of clever work as the accomplice of the captain. Leslie Perrins, as Ronald, and Robert Holmes, as Dalmayne, fill their parts well. Some lovely punt and backwater scenes, night club life, and the peace of the convent, where Irene Rooke makes an ideal Mother Superior, alternate as the gripping story is unfolded,
