The third round of the amateur contest was.played. _ Wagg had no difficulty in -disposing ot Silk after getting a morning lead of six holes. He became dormy at the eighth in the afternoon and won 9 and 7. Parker, who went out 4 up on Whyte, just managed to retain his advantage and finished 1 up. .. J. L. Black, square with Reilly in the morning, turned on great golf to trounce him in the afternoon. Black was one over threes at the sixth and four under fours at the 11th, where he won 8 and 7. No one could have withstood Black’s onslaught. . Collins, two tip on Fryer in the morn., tng, went on to win 6 and 5. Three other matches provided great finishes. The Ross v. Sime game wa» a marathon destined to be historic in the . records of the tournament; Duncan Suffered a lapse and had to turn on his most brilliant golf to. dispose of Smith. Cook turned the tables on Goss in the last' stages.' Goss set out m the afternoon. 4 up and *kept in. front to fee 14th. The amateur bogey handicap to-day was won-by W. E. 0. Gregory, 3 up. P, W Blundell was second with 1 up. A. ti. Warren and V. A. Ward returned 1 cards of all square.
