RELIEF FUND ALLOCATION. The allocation of funds for No. J scheme for • this week have been reduced and allow work to be rationed to the basis ,of single men one day for 7s 6d, married men from 14 days for 15s to 2J days for £1 according to size of family and other circumstances. Mr. G. Gilbert, who met with an accident last week, is reported to be making steady progress. His daughter, who was slightly injured at the same time, is practically well again. The Kaponga Town Board was represented at the opening of the Strat-ford-Main Trunk railway ou Monday by the chairman ('Mr. A. R. Bates) and Messrs. W. G. Cran, B. A. Law, A. J. Mills and J. ,P. Gibson. Many Kaponga people visited. Stratford for the occasion. ■ln a letter to Mr. W. G. Cran, Jack McCook, the local Flock House boy under the South Taranaki Returned Soliders’ Association scheme, says he is happy in his .position. There are 57. boys at Flock House, some of whom have no experience of farm life. The working -week consists of five days, Monday to Friday. Saturday mornings pre occupied with military and physical drill and lectures, the afternoon being free, and on Saturday evenings silent picture entertainment is provided. On Sunday morning a church service is conducted by the staff, and during the remainder of the day the boys are at liberty. The initial training consists, of gardening, housework, ensilage making and milking, which is done in fortnightly shifts., At the monthly meeting of the Kaponga School Committee on Monday Mr. C. H. Brewer presided, the following members also being present: Messrs. C. N. Gordge and E. S. Death and the secretary (Mrs. I. E. Evans). The secretary’s action in authorising the purchase of seeds for the school flower garden was approved.- The chairman. reported that no further communication had been received from the board in connection with the renewal of the fences at the school. It was decided to request the board to grant a holiday for the Stratford show, it being understood that a large majority of the public desired to attend. As a result of the recent flag s'oo in aid of. the funds £1 7s became available. Mr. Charles West, who underwent an operation for appendicitis at the Hawera hospital last week, is progressing very favourably. Mrs. A. Shepherd, Riverlea, is out of hospital after '..an operation and is spending a few weeks of convalescence with her sister, Mrs. W. G, Cran, Kaponga. A confirmation service was held on Tuesday evening at St.' Mark s 'by the Rt. Rev. T. 'H. Sprott, Bishop of Wellington, when 14 candidates were presented. There was a large congregation. After the service the candidates and their parents- and parishioners adjourn; ed to the Parish, Hall, where supper was provided by the ladies’ guild.
