WILL REICH FIGHT?
TO WIN BACK ALSACE.
GERMAN WRITER WARNS FRANCE
The Alsatian Senator Eccard recently gave the Journal des Debats, for publication, the following letter that he had received from Dr. Nagelschmidt, a German citizen, concerning the status of Alsace and Lorraine: —
“I have read the attached clipping from a newspaper and am much surprised. Do you really believe that a single German has renounced hope of regaining Alsace and Lorraine? Do you not know that Alsace, at least always was and remains purely German? Why was a plebiscite never authorised? “Do you not believe that the peace concluded with us when we were within GO kilometers (about 37 miles) of Paris will necessarily engender a new war, at the conclusion of which we shall take over Alsace and numerous other territories?
“Do you really believe that it is possible to. disarm the German Empire and treat it as if it were Poland or Home Balkan State?
“Have .all Frenchmen gone into their second infancy? No, any reasonable man would recognise the necessity for revenge; does that surprise you? “Do you believe yourself established solidly ‘in a high position? Conducting yourself as you do, you will fall the harder.
“Don’t you know that Germany, in every realm, is a hundred times more advanced than France, and that ehe acts with courage and attention to work; with cleanliness, art and science? “Continue, therefore, your campaign of hat®.”
