UNTOUCHABLES’ CHAMPION

GANDHI’S NEW AIM IN LIFE

GUIDES CAMPAIGN FROM GAOL POSSIBILITY OF RELEASE CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE DYING By Telegraph—Pres# Assn. —Copyright. Calcutta, Nov. 8. In reply to a question in the Legislative Assembly Mr. H. G. Haig, an honorary Minister, set out clearly the Government’s decision to allow Mahatma Gandhi to carry on from prison his social movement on behalf of the untouchables and pointed out that if Gandhi dissociated himself from the civil disobedience movement all restrictions would end. Gandhi’s issue of his second manifesto appealing to caste Hindus to cease their persecution of the untouchables is interpreted to mean that he is in deadly earnest and now regards this question as the mission of his life. It is also regarded as likely that he will soon make his release possible since there is little likelihood that he will ever again lead the civil disobedience campagn, which is decreasing.
