MORTGAGORS’ COMMISSION

WORK OF ADJUSTMENT. Members of the Taranaki Mortgage Adjustment Commission, Messrs. A. Coleman, chairman (Stratford), C. D. Dickie (Hawera) and James Hine (Waitart) leave to-day for Te. Kuiti to hold sittings of the commission this afternoon and to-morrow. They will also inspect farm properties in the Te Kuiti district. The commission has been exceedingly/ busy since its inception, hearing applications for relief from mortgagors and tenants and a large number of applications remains to be considered.

Sittings of the commission, Mr. Coleman told a News reporter yesterday, were held regularly at Hawera, Stratford and New Plymouth, and at less frequent x intervals at Patea, Waiter®, Te Kuiti and Taumarunui. The reports and the recommendations of the commission were prepared, after the applications were heard and were then filed in the Magistrate’s Court or the Supreme Court, according to the amounts involved, to be dealt with subsequently by magistrate or judge. A great deal of work apart from hearings and inspections, Air. Coleman said, was entailed in the preparation of the reports of the commission, as in many cases careful examination, of balancesheets and other financial statements was involved.
