INNINGS AND 128 RUNS

VICTORY FOR ENGLISHMEN

DEFEAT OF SOUTH AUSTRALIANS.

ONE BATSMAN MAKES STAND.

CATCHLOVE COMPILES 65 RUNS.

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.

Rec. 10 p.m. Adelaide Nov 8. England defeated South Australia by an innings and 128 runs. The remaining South Australian batsmen made a poor showing, except Catchlove. _ The wicket was fast and the weather was clear. The attendance was 2000. Mainly due to the good bowling of Verity, Bowes and Brown the South Australian wickets went cheaply. Catchlove was the only- batsman to make a semblance of a stand. He was flowed and patient in making his 05. He’°was in 269 minutes and hit three fours. The innings closed for 216 runs and England won by an innings and 128 runs. The scores are: — ENGLAND. First innings 634 SOUTH AUSTRALIA. • First innings ■ • Second Innings. Verity bowled 24.6 overs, including 13 maidens. Clem Hill says the English fielding Is not up to test standard and lacks the Chapman, Hobbs and Hendren calibre. The men are slow throwers. The batting is solid. Brown is a formidable slow bowler and Verity is subtle, with easy action, and has a tricky spin. He will be Australia’s bete noir on a favourable wicket. Richardson’s test claims are paramount because of his partiality to combat the speed of Larwood and Bowes. The latter is not dangerous unless the ball flies. Maurice Tate is a passenger by the Strathnaver which arrived at Fremantle- to-day. He says he is feeling fit and hopes to be able to take part in the first test match at Melbourne.
