UNEMPLOYED RELIEF WORK

NORTH TARANAKI COMMITTEE. A meeting of the North Taranaki Unemployment Committee was held at New Plymouth yesterday. Those present were Messrs. J. Brown (chairman), W. G. Reid, J. W. Darby, H. V. S. Griffiths, J. W. Connett and C. P. Smith (secretary). Ten applications for labour under the No. 5 “over the fence” scheme were received and were granted, subject to the applicants making contributions of small sums to the unemployment funds.

The dismissal of a relief worker engaged on work at Rotokare was reported by the borough engineer, Mr. C. Clarke. After considering the report of

the overseer it was decided to stand the man down for a fortnight. An application for a man for work under scheme 4a was granted.
