NORTH TARANAKI CRICKET

MEETING of the committee

FOUR ROUNDS IN-SENIOR A GRADE

The North Taranaki Cricket Division management committee met last night, when there were -present Messrs T. H. Bates (chairman), R. Gilbert, P. S. Carroll, F. Ferry, W. Beard, S. O. Jones, H. J. Larkin and H. J. Abram (honorary secretary). It was decided that Messrs Bates, Abram aud Carroll -be empowered to operate on the bank account, all three signatures to 'be appended to cheques. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Rankin for hi® donation'of a bag. of manure.

The financial statement showed cash in 'bank to the amount of £lO 17® 9d. It was decided that £2 2s be paid to the Taranaki Association as subscription fee.

A proposal by Mr. Larkin that the senior competition be altered from three to four rounds was seconded by Mr. Jones and carried. .

It was also decided that the next matches in the senior A grade be twoday matches, and the third (last) ■matches in the first round on November 26 (date of North v. South Taranaki match) be one-day matches. On the following five consecutive Saturdays one-day matches are to be -played (taking play to the end of the -second serifes of the third, round), and thereafter twoday" matches are to be played to the end of the fourth round. (

‘ Though the 'scheme seemed fairly complicated, said Mr. Larkin, on analysis it showed that each team in the senior A grade would play an equal number of two-day and one-day matches against the other teams, and the scheme would carry the competitions practically to the end of the season, which would not occur if the programme fixed at the previous meeting were adhered to. The scheme would also overcome, to a large extent, the interruption that would occur in the customary two-day fixtures, mowing to engagements other than Club competitions. ‘ Mr. 'Bates stressed the need for punctuality in starting. The allocation of grounds for next Saturday was fixed as follows: — •Senior B:—Waitara v. Central, at iWaitara; Old 'Boys v. High School, at High School Gully; Western ‘Park v. New Plymouth, at Western Park. Junior: Band v. Old Boys, at Tukapo No. 1; School v. Western Park, at Tukapo; Waitara v. New Plymouth, at Tukapo. The allocation of grounds for future junior matches was left in the hands of Mr. F. C. Ferry. Matters relative to the playing of primary school matches on Pukekura Park were dealt with in committee, and a committee was subsequently set up to go into the whole matter with the represenatives of the primary schools.
