NEW PLYMOUTH SWIMMERS

IMPROMPTU CARNIVAL HELD.

SUCCESSFUL OPENING NIGHT.

An impromptu carnival with a short programme of post entry races and & polo match, was the interesting way in which the New Plymouth Swimming Club opened its season last night at the municipal baths. Members of other clubs were invited and participated in the events, and the evening was a success.

Air. M. Smale, chairman, of the committee, in opening the season said it was necessary for members to realise that training must begin early in the season if any good was to be done and any improvement effected. There had been some doubt as to the conduct of junior polo, but members cOuld be assured that the matter would, be arranged satisfactorily. Members could help the committee materially. by making the work as light aS possible. The officials were: Judges, Messrs. Blennerhassett, and V. Garth; starter and announcer, Air. N. Lealand; secretary and recorder, Air. L. Rea; treasurer, Mr. C. Allen.
