SOME COMPARISONS MADE. Authoritative figures secured by the chairman of the East Committee, Air. J. C. Robins, show that the Stratford Mountain Road, which terminates on the eastern plateau 4000 feet above sea level, reaches the highest point of any road in New Zealand.

Mr. Robins ignored guide books and such sources of information, and the following figures, ho said yesterday, were authoritative and covered ' other high points in New Zealand reached by road: Summit of Arthur’s Pass, 3038 feet; Haast saddle, 2000; Muruia saddle, 1800; Wairua, from Buller watershed, top house, 2000 feet; Lake Tekapo, 2320; Lake Pukaki, 1585; Hermitage, 2500; Fair lie, 1000; Crown Range, 3670; Lindus Pass, 3100; Queenstown, 1020; Chateau, 3710; McKinnon Pass, 3500.
