COMMERCE & PRODUCTION
Their Inter-dependence A Claim For Support. The interdependence of commercial and rural activities having been admitted, the next question is the practical application of that principle. Newton King Ltd. offers as its share of common service such assistance as financial aid during periods when earnings from the land are not available; the assembly and supply of goods required by the farmer; advice and assistance in obtaining suitable livestock; distributive and marketing facilities in order that the best returns possible may be obtained by the settler for his produce. So used has Taranaki become to the firm’s activities that it is easy to overlook .the fact that Newton King Ltd. is carrying a heavy load of responsibility—financial and otherwise —ail with the desire to give assistance and support to the farming community. It is service that only broad views and the confidence born of experience makes worth while, and then, only if. assured of all the assistance and support, the settlers in their turn can give a firm. Co-operation between rural and commercial activities is absolutely essential to the progress and prosperity of Taranaki. Newton King Ltd. has shown for 50 years its realisation of this necessity. But the co-operation must include the farmer’s part as well as the firm’s. Settlers can do their share in bringing back prosperity to the province by giving all their business to looal firms of tried and proven capacity and experience, and organisations which have their main activities outside the district are not entitled to the support which those who are carrying - the local burden should receive. It is not sentimental preference that is sought. It is sound business for a farming community to support a firm that has for half a century been rendering it good service and is doing it still.
Newton King Ltd. has performed, and is performing, its part of the taslc of co-operative effort,, as many a Taranaki settler can testify. The firm has therefore earned the right to urge that by affording it full support the farmers of Taranaki are acting in their own true interests. Given that support Newton King Ltd. will welcome even wider opportunities for service.
