OPENING OF THE RAILWAY.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,— A correspondent has made a suggestion that first-class fares be provided for ratepayers wishing to see the rail opening. He has a wrong impression of the importance of ratepayers. I would suggest that ratepayers of the districts contributing be offered free transport; the townspeople in soft goods trucks, farmers in bobby calf trucks, all strawed and covered; free lemonade and food to be provided on arrival. The chairman of the most suitable local association could be asked to preside and request the ratepayers to behave in a subdued manner and not break the bottles. Any food remaining, and the proceeds of the sale of lemonade bottles from the picnic and champagne bottles from the banquet would be donated to the deserving poor. —I am, etc., H.R.S. Stratford, Oct. 25, 1932.
