AID FOR CENTRAL EUROPE

ITALIANS’ REPLY TO FRANCE. “SAVE AUSTRIA AND HUNGARY’? By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. \ . Rome, March 8. “Save Austria and Hungary first,” is the keynote of the Italian reply to M. Tardieu’s proposal for urgent co-operation in Central and South-eastern European countries to enable financial and economic reconstruction. The reply draws attention to Italy’s recent trade agreement with Austria and Hungary. If successful it will be an important step to a general reconstruction in the Balkans, in which Italy is especially interested. ■>

It suggests, in connection with the proposal that Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Roumania and Yugo-Slavia should mutually consult regarding preferential measures, that it would be preferable if views were exchanged also by France and Germany and Italy and Britain to enable their participation.
