BOWLING AT VOGELTOWN
TOURNAMENT CONCLUDES BOULTON (WEST END) WINNER. COMFORTABLE VICTORY IN FINAL. The final of the Vogeltown one-day bowling tournament, which was commenced on Tuesday was decided at the ■ Vogeltown green yesterday, when after a game in which some brilliant bowling was witnessed R. Boulton (West End) defeated J. McNeill (Fitzroy) by 13 points, on the 20th head. The final score was; — J. Duffin, Nicholson, M. Marsh, R. Boulton (sk., West End) 26. Robertson, W. Beadle, Verry, J. McNeill (sk., Fitzroy) 13. The green was in splendid order, and at the start played very keenly, though later in the afternoon, as the weather became dull and rain threatened, it slowed up. The rain fortunately held ofi’ until the conclusion. Play was watched by a good gathering of enthusiasts, who found much to admire .in the play. Every member of the winning team, from the lead to the skip, was in splendid form. Boulton was the first to score with a single, but his opponent evened up next head. Then Boulton with a single and four braces in succession drew away to lead 10 —3 on the seventh head. McNeill then took a hand, and with a three, followed by a single, brace and single, reduced the margin to two on the eleventh head. A brace and a four to Boulton gave the West End skip the lead by 16—8 on the thirteenth head, and at this stage the afternoon tea adjournment was taken. On resuming McNeill scored three, but thereafter Boulton drew away, scoring a two and two threes to lead. 24 —11 on the seventeenth head. McNeill added a single, tout Boulton replied with two on the nineteenth head, leaving McNeill I’4 in arrears with only two heads to go. The Fitzroy skip scored one on the twentieth head. At the conclusion of play Mr. F. W. Okey, on behalf of the Vogeltown Club, presented the trophies to the winning rink and to the runners-up .He congratulated the West End rink on their splendid play, and. said that some very fine bowling had been witnessed. He also extended, good, wishes to the Fitzroy rink. Mr. R. Boulton, on behalf of his team, congratulated the Vogeltown Club on the manner in which they had conducted the one-day tournament. Such tournaments, he said, had evidently come to stay, and he felt quite sure that they would be the means of improving the standard of play and the, feeling of friendliness among all the clubs. Mr. J. McNeill also spoke. Cheers were then given for both teams.
