MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. VARIOUS MATTERS DEALT WITH. The New Plymouth Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths), Crs. R. W. D. Robertson, Ff J. Hill, J. Brown, J. W. Darby, P. E. Stainton, R. J. Pentecost and F. Araoore. An invitation to the jubilee celebrations of the Patea Borough Council was received, and it was decided that the Mayor should represent the council and the town. . ■ , On the recommendation of the works committee it was decided to lease to the High Schools Board the cemetery paddock (comprising approximately 12 acres 18 perches of the back unused part of the cemetery reserve) on a month to month tenancy at £1 Os 2d per month, free of rates and upon terms'to be approved by the borough solicitor. It was decided to make arrangements for a conference between. the works committee and representatives of the Tukapo Sportsground Committee (Reserve T) regarding the control of the reserve* As a result of an application from the Scouts and Girl Guides reserve committee in connection with the Avery trust lands off Timandra .Street, the borough engineer was authorised to employ relief workers to grade the entrance to the reserve in order to give vehicular access. An application for the improvement of the footpath on the northern side of Hine Street, near Dawson Street, was left with the engineer to deal with. It was decided to inform the Rotokare Tennis Club that no funds were available for the improvement of Walsh Street. . , The works committee reported it had conferred with the Commissioner of Crown Lands regarding storm water drainage at Mr, Benoni White’s property in Leach Street. Mr. White wrote that the damage from storm water had been intensified on his property. He asked the council to inspect the damage. —It was decided that all councillors who could should meet Mr. White on the site to-morrow morning. Regarding the formation of a new stock route and in connection with land lying between Frankleigh Park and Frankley Road, it was decided to accept the offer of Mrs. Julian to sell to the council 13.&5 perches for £3B, the council at its own cost to erect a fence on the ne- road, frontage to Mrs. Julian’s land and to permit her to remove the motor garage now on the proposed new road. In connection with the same matter it was decided to accept from Mr. T. J. Wood, free of compensation, the dedif cation of 12.27 perches, subject to certain conditions. In connection with the East End Reserve, it was decided to rescind part of an earlier resolution and substitute a clause providing that the committee should be elected annually at a meeting to be convened, the names of those elected to be submitted to the council for approval. In order to meet present day requirements it was decided that the conditions of control of the reserve be re-drafted and that copies be submitted to the council and the committee for approval. Another resolution appointed the following to act as a committee for the reserve: Messrs. A. R. Milne, F. Morris, J. H. Batey, F. Eaddy, E. Collings, J. Mylroi, G. Allan, C. Abbott, H. Abbott, H. V. Sharrock, F. 8. Nicholson, A. Paynter, F. A. Coleman, C. B. Martin, M. Goldsbury, P. R. Draper, E. Riding, H. Bulmer, C. G. Clarke, G. Pascoe and Cn E. W. D. Robertson. The engineer was authorised to build up the roadway edges to the asphalt in Vivian Street, opposite St. Mary’s Church. The electric light and tramways committee reported that notice was received from th 1 chief postmaster terminating the mail service on the tramways to Fitzroy and Moturoa. .It was decided to inform Mr. H. Gedge that the council could not this year supply the tenants of the hydro farms with ton for ton of superphosphate for top-dressing. Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs. W. Pettigrew (Stratford), C. Sanders (Westown) and Duncan and Davies, Ltd., who had given trees for planting on the hydro lands.
