UNEMPLOYED RELIEF WORK
HAWERA’S WEEKLY ALLOCATION. Most of Hawera’s registered unemployed are standing down this week, and consequently the board’s allocation of £194 Bs. for wage expenditure is smaller than for the three previous weeks. This week’s allocations are: Normanby Town Board, 16; Tokaora.school committee 2; Matapu school committee, one; Manutahi school committee, 1; Hawera Borough Council 20; South Committee, Egmont National Park Board 2; Hawdra County Council, 69. BUSINESS NOTICES. Ladies of the: Manaia district will be afforded an opportunity this afternoon of witnessing a demonstration of wool rugmaking in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Manaia. The making of these rugs and mats in the home marks a forward step in the “Use More Wool Campaign," and should be reflected in a greater demand for New Zea-land-grown wool. Smith and Trim, Ltd., advertises particulars of a sale on account of Mrs. N. K. Shepherd, of the contents of the Vienna Tea Rooms on the premises, Princes Street, Hawera, at 1.30 p.m. to-morrow. DONOVAN TO BOX HUGHES. The matching of Archie Hughes with. Tommy Donovan at Hawera was arranged at last night’s meeting of the executive of the Hawera Amateur Boxing Association, the consent of both professionals being received. Mr. E. T. Simon presided. The purse for the contest will be assessed on a percentage of the profits. The amateur bouts will take the form of an interprovincial contest between Manawatu and Taranaki. Mr. R. W. Haddow, Patea, was appointed referee. Admission prices were reduced.
