WRESTLING CRITICISED
STRONG WORDS AT CHRISTCHURCH HIRING OF HALL QUESTIONED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The City Council to-night discussed a report of the by-laws committee- recommending that the municipal concert hall be not°let in future for professional wrestling contests. A strong and heated attack on a recent exhibition was led by the Rev. J. K. Archer, who was supported by other councillors, who used such terms as diabolical, abominable, degrading and vulgar. Cr. Evans moved an amendment to the report that the council should warn the Wrestling Association that if the contests were not better conducted in future the lease of the hall would be refused. The amendment was negatived by nine votes to eight and the report was also rejected by the same vote.
