TIMBERLANDS DEVASTATED VOLUNTEERS FIGHT BLAZE By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. New York, July 23. Forest fires are devastating vast areas of timberland in four western States. Fires have raged over 50,000 acres in Wyoming, and 2500 volunteers are fighting the flames in Montana.
A shift in the wind saved Deadwood, South Dakota, where fires extended over a 50-mile front. A serious blaze threatened the National Forest in Idaho.
