TOO MANY DOCTORS

OVERCROWDING IN PARIS.

Much has been written recently in the French press about the overcrowding of the medical profession. A drastic remedy is now proposed. Under a new bill which is being discussed by the French Senate, it is proposed that no one should be allowed to practise medicine in France unless he has first passed a French qualifying examination, and has become naturalised as a Frenchman. This latter obligation means that.he would have to submit to the French rules governing compulsory military service. The rapporteur of the bill point out that the medical profession is now dangerously overcrowded. During the past year there Were 3147 foreign students, as compared with 8228 Frenchmen. While France 30 years ago had 17,000 doctors, she now has 27,000. '
