SON-IN-LAW HORSE BOUGHT. ANOTHER ENGLISH IMPORTATION. The purchase for New Zealand of a yourig stallion of exceptional breeding has just been made in England. Staying blood is the motive power behind the present selection. The success of Son-in-Law horges at the stud and the great value placed on his blood from the point of view of the stayer has resulted in the purchase of a third son of this famous stayer and sire. Son-in-Law himself won the Cesarewitch, Goodwood Cup and Jockey Club Cup twice in addition to many other good races of a value exceeding £243,000. Son-in-Law was the leading stallion in 1924 and again in 1930. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., have completed the purchase in England for Mr. S. Higgs, Riecarton, of Philamor, a five-year-old son of Son-in-Law. Philamor comes from the famous Illuminata strain, his dam being Love-oil, by Aniadis from Paraffine Lass,< by St. Frusquin from Yvonne, by Sheen from Phosphine, by Foxhall from Illuminata. This is a very high-class pedigree, Illuminata is the dam of Ladas and many winners, and Phosphine is a half-sister to Chelaridry, winner of £13,153, and the dam of winners of £38,290, including Neil Gow. Love-oil, the dam of philamor, is a wonderful brood mare and her first five foals were all winners. Philamor sold at the 1927 Newmarket sales for 8500 guineas. He was bred by Lord Furness and was then described as a well balanced half-brother to Legatee, who w® 3 unbeaten as a three-year-old. philamor is being shipped from England immediately and will arrive in New Zealand in good time for the coming season, Two years ago Mr. Higgs held Silverado on lease in the Dominion for a couple of seasons, and prior to that lie was associated with the Kinloch Stud, where he was in charge of Martian, Paladin and Diacquenod.
