The Toko branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting in the Coronation Hall, Tbko, on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. EVan Jones presided. Those present were Mesdames Jones, Rowe, Burgham, Simmons, Maxwell, Needham, Marfell, Woollaston, Corbett, Ferguson, Anderson, Len Milne and W. Gernhoefer, Misses Needham, Burgham, Wilson and Milne. Regret was expressed that Mrs. and Mis-s Maunsell could not be present owing to Miss Maunsell’s indisposition.

Mrs, W. H. Young lent her house for a social afternoon on behalf of the Stratford branch of the Women’s Division on Tuesday. Tea was provided, and two competitions were held, the winner of the cake competition being Mrs. Myers, and the “cap” competition was won by Mrs. Nowell. Those present were Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. W. H. Young, Mrs. S. Pitt, Mrs. Shannon, Mrs. Nowell, Mrs. W. Vickers, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. J. Hall, Mrs. T. King, Mrs. Trotter, Mrs. H. J. Hunt, Mrs. T. Marchant, Mrs. T. The second of a series of euchre parties was held in the Parish Hall on Monday evening for the hall funds, and in spite of bad weather there was a large attendance. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Young, Mr. and Mrs. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. H. Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. Hartwig, Mr. and Mrs. Fredric, Mrs. Burke, Miis. Wills, Mrs. Whittington, Mrs. Fraser, Mrs. Irving, Mrs. Sturroch, Mrs. Patterson, Sirs. Tunbridge, Mrs. Reader, Mrs. Needham, Gillivray, Mrs. Christensen, Mrs. T. Dixon, Mrs. Byron, Mrs. Ericksen, Mrs. Eaton, Mrs. Hignett, Mrs. Coward, Mrs. Knight, Mrs. Oliver, Mrs. Sturrock, Mrs. Aagaard, Mrs. Reed, the Misses Middleton (2), Miss Hignett and Miss Nelson. MANAIA WOMEN’S DIVISION. There was an attendance of about 100 Women’s Division members from all over South Taranaki at Manaia on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the third birthday of the branch. Mrs. Sutherland (president) extended a hearty welcome to all present. The tables, which were laden' with dainties of every description, were prettily decorated with berries and autumn tints of flowers and foliage. A threetier birthday cake, made by Mrs. Gulliver, and iced by Mrs. Soothill, held pride of place, aiid was much admired, with its three candles, coloured red, white and blue, and the letters M.W.D. F.U. done in green angelicao. The cake was cut by Mrs. Benton, president of the Auroa branch. The whole of the cooking for this large function was done from the recipes contained in the W. D. Cookery Book, which spoke volumes for the efficiency of this new guide. Apologies were received for the unavoidable absence of Mesdames Carter, Cocker, Cameron, Calder and Phillips and Miss Bridge. A much appreciated musical programme was rendered, every item being encored. Mesdames Gyde, McCook and Millar charmed the audience with their beautiful songs, while musical monologues were given by Mrs. Benton. The accompaniments were played by Mesdames Davie, McCook, Millar and Gyde, and Mrs. Betts played a pianoforte solo. Mrs. Gyde led community singing. Greetings and congratulations were extended to the Manaia branch by Mesdames Bourke, Allan, Meuli, Le Fleming, Benton, Shearer and Young. Mrs. Sutherland, in her acknowledgments, stated that she tried to copy the Cubs’ ambition, “to do one better than the other fellow.”

The Manaia. branch was congratulated on having such a. capable president, whose social work for the needy is known throughout South Taranaki, while in her modesty she has refused to be nominated for several important official positions offered her at each conference.
