BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
TARANAKI TOURNAMENT.
The Taranaki amateur boxing, championships are to be decided in the Coronation Hall, New Plymouth, starting at six o'clock this evening. The entries are so numerous that to ensure finality being ■ reached this evening it is necessary not only to make an early start but also to push the bouts through without delay. The association has made complete arrangements' and experienced otficials are in all the'responsible positions. For some time amateurs in Taranaki, including all of last year’s titleholders, have been training in • preparation, and the public therefore should see some very strenuous contests and there is a possibility of more than one of the titles changing hands. The form displayed by the champions will be closely watched by the selection committee with a view to ohoosihg those deemed worthy of upholding the reputation of the-province at the New Zealand championships at Ashburton early next month, when, incidentally, the New Zealand selectors will be on the lookout for a team to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games. A glance through the entries will give some idea of the fare that will be provided, and with the exception of one or two who may not be up to specifications required by the medical men, all are certain to appear, as to guard against defaults the association has this year instituted an entrance fee which will be refunded on appearance, The prices of admission have been kept very low.
