MALE CHOIR FORMED
NEW ORPHEUS SOCIETY.
OBJECTS OUTLINED AT MEETING.
A male choir called the New Plymouth Orpheus Society was formed at a meeting in New Plymouth on Wednesday evening. An attendance of 12 was presided over by Mr. G. J. Lawrence.
The convener, Mr. F. Cornwall, outlined the purpose of the meeting. Ha hoped, he said, either to reorganise the old male choir or to found a new one. There was a splendid opening for & male choir in New Plymouth. He had a list of 50 men who were likely to join, and many of these had actually promised to do so. Many people had told him that the tenor section of the choir would be very weak. However, some splendid tenors had agreed to join, and he was convinced that this would be one of the strongest sections of the choir. He felt assured of at least 30 good voices. Such a choir would not be -run in any spirit of antagonism to any other choir or musical organisation in the town. He simply felt thatthere was an opening for such a choir in New Plymouth, and that the necessary voices could be procured. In reply to a question the chairman stated that the old male choir had bee® wound up, only the music remaining. On the motion of Mr. C. S. Mayer, seconded by Mr. E. H. White, it was decided that a male choir, to be called the New Plymouth Orpheus Society, be formed, and that members of the. old male choir be invited, to join. The following committee to which there is the power to add. was elected: Messrs. F. Hooker, E. H. White, R. Gilbert, A. McDonald, C. S. Mayer, G. J. Lawrence, F. Baird. Mr. E. H. Whit* was elected honorary secretary and Mr. F. Cornwall conductor.
