Auckland, July 22. “■She has a wardrobe that might be envied by any lady in Auckland,” said Chief-Detective Kelly when Violet Ivanhoe appeared for sentence to-day on 14 charges of stealing handbags, purses, two overcoats and 11 frocks to the total value of £127.
The goods, all of which were stolen between April 7 and July 3, Were displayed in Court. Chief-Detective Kelly said Mrs. Ivanhoe was living apart from her husband and from her two young daughters, whom she left 18 mouths ago. Her method was to steal bags and purses when shoppers put them down temporarily on counters. Once when detected by a woman and accosted Mrs. Ivanhoe warned the woman that she had better bo careful or Mrs. Ivanhoe would call the manager. She was sentenced to a year's reformative detention.
