HELP FOR SMALL HOLDERS
DEPUTATION MEETS MINISTER. BELIEF FROM RATING SOUGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ’ Wellington, July 22. The question of encouraging and assisting those who make a living by farming small plots within urban Meas was raised by a deputation from the Tomato and Small Fruit Growers’ Association which waited on Mr. P. A. de la Perrelle to-day. The Minister was urged t-p endeavour to place on the Statue Book legislation to provide the necessary rating relief. Mr. de la Perrelle promised to go into the matter and to see if it would be possible to frame a Bill to meet the desires of all sides. The question of framing regulations to cover retailers who state the origin of tomatoes offered for sale was raised. It was stated that many retailers made the practice of labelling field tomatoes as “hot house grown” and there was similar trouble regarding island tomatoes. The Minister said this was a matter for consideration by the Industrial and Commerce Committee. He would instruct his officers to go into the matter to see what could be done.
