ATWATER KENT RADIO DEVELOPMENT. ; The principal feature in the display made by the firm of Collier’s—now established over 50 years—is the very latest developments in radio made by Atwater Kent. This set is indisputably the world’s best receiver on the market to-day, and electrical mechanicians and talkie-picture technicians alike acclaim it as the nearest approach to perfection yet attained in the radio field. The new Golden Voiced compact super heterodyne has caused a sensation with its new features. The new American type super power Pentode valve, a further development of the all-conquering screen grid valve, is claimed by the Atwater Kent people, also by Arcturus and CeCo Companies, leaders in valve manufacture in U.S.A., as being three to four times as powerful as the screen grid, and the greatest advance in radio science since the three element tube was announced. Atwater Kent are now using this wonderful Pentode tube to improve audio frequency amplification, just as Atwater Kent screen grid power improved radio frequency amplification. The Pentode replaces three ordinary valves, and eliminates the usual cramming in a small set, with the consequent heat generated by so many valves. ■ According to last month’s trade journals from America, another two well-known makers have adopted the Pentode, whilst Collier’s have advice of another well-known American make sold in New Zealand, bringing out a Pentode set in about six weeks’ time. A full variety of Golden Voiced Atwater Kent receivers, employing the latest discoveries of Atwater Kent laboratories, are also, represented at the exhibit. Prices of the sets range from £3l 10s, to £B5 for the radio-gramophone combination model. Collier’s exhibit is certainly one of the most interesting at this year’s Winter Show.
