SEASON’S STYLES IN MOTOR-CARS

FINE EXHIBIT OF WORKING MODELS ANNOUNCEMENTS BY THE MINISTER J{EARRANGED on a larger and more comprehensive scale than ever, the 22nd. annual New Plymouth Winter Show was opened in the Agricultural. Hall, Gill Street, yesterday afternoon by the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour. In conjunction with the display of produce and other exhibits a poultry show is also being held, and in the spacious main hall the new season’s styles in motor-cars are being demonstrated in the motor olympia. The dog show and rabbit breeders’ show will be held on subsequent days. A. new feature of the show this year is an aeroplane complete in every detail, and with it an aeroplane engine by itself. This exhibit, which was admitted to the building only after considerable trouble and manipulation, is the property of the Western (N. 1. Federated Flying Club. It is under the personal supervision of the club’s ground engineer, aqd will no doubt be the centre of a great deal of interest. Outstanding this year amongst a collection of exhibits that have all attained to a very high standard is the display of models, both working and otherwise. Perhaps most impressive of all these models is a complete oil drilling plant and machinery that is capable of boring'to a considerable depth. In, opening the sliowtlie Minister of Labour made some important pronouncements regarding the embargo on the importation of stock, and the purchase of fertilisers. On the question of importing stock he stated that although many farmers considered the time was ripe for the importation of new blood nothing would be done without the' full concurrence of those vitally interested, who would first be consulted in the matter. With reference to fertilisers the Minister emphasised that a sum of £lOO,OOO was being made available through the Rural Intermediate Credits Board for the purchase of fertilisers, to be advanced through dairy companies and stock and station agents.
