SMASH NARROWLY AVERTED. Mr. A. Corkill was approaching the railway crossing along Rata Street in his car on Saturday when his attention was distracted. The south-bound train was also approaching. A timely shout by a bystander saved Mr. Corkill from an accident, but he managed to pull up and the step of the engine just caught a front wheel, which was twisted. After putting on another wheel Mr. Corkill was able to proceed on his way. The Kaimata Card Club’s fortnightly euchre party was held on Tuesday evening and was a great success. The largest crowd to date this season assembled. The prize-winners were Miss Wellington (134 games) 1, Miss Monatti (13 games) •2; Mr. D. Bracegirdle (13 games) 1, and Mr. E. Bockock (13 games) 2. Mr. Bracegirdle won the play-off. The death occurred on Sunday at her residence, Richmond Street, of a very well-known Inglewood resident, Mrs. Stockley, at the age of 85 years.
