The Women’s Division’s evening last week was devoted t'o lamp-shade making. . Mrs. George Woods, assisted by Miss Gladys Linn, demonstrated. To continue the course an extra afternoon will be devoted to the work during the; present week. The Mangatoki girls’ basketball team was defeated by the Matapu. school girls on the Mangatoki school ground by 10 goals to 1 on Saturday morning. Matapu proved too experienced for Mangatoki, who conceded too many penalties. The Mangatoki branch of the Farmers’ Union held a euchre tournament on Friday. The attendance was even better than the successfsul opening night, taxing the table accommodation. Miss E. McCracken (10| points) and Master H. Wilson (9jr points) were the most successful players. * Heavy hail squalls on Thursday night and early Friday morning gave the appearance of a snowfall, covering the ground with a good white coating which lasted well into the day. A sharp frost was experienced on Saturday morning. With the much colder weather production is declining more rapidly after a phenomenal month of May. Most farmers are now feeding out hay and ensilage. Mr. and Mrs. E. Colson and family left for Runciman, Franklin county, on Wednesday. Mr. Major is occupying the farm vacated by Mr. Colson.
