A party of business girls which, set forth a fortnight ago to win gold in a part of the country that has produced Luch is reported to be doing fairly well (says a Sydney correspondent), ine Mrls are now established as alluvial miners. Their camp is all that a camp should be. Their muscles are .gained to the work, which was described at first as absolutely back-breaking, and thev know gold when they see it. They are" getting a little gold, also some o-ems. They feel the urge to gamble, and thev expect every day .to bring forth a ” “bonanza.” Expectations may never be realised, but, if not, they will not be cast down. The experrence is accepted as one of the most valuable m their lives. They have to live without quarrelling, each doing her share of the camp work, as well as of the mining. This party of girls, although the. first party, docs not represent the pioneer women gold-seekers. There are many women prospecting in the company of their husbands, and making what miners always describe as “tucker.” Some couples may be making more, but they, like the thousands of prospectors generally, are very discreet in regard to their discoveries.
In a recent Court case in England a motorist was inflicted in heavy damages in a collision case. His tyres had worn smooth and the car skidded on the wet road. The Judge ruled that the accident was preventible if defendant’s tyres had been in good order. There is no excuse for taking risks in this manner nowadays, as the tread can be replaced, and” the tyres put into perfect condition at less than half the cost of new ones. *
