SHOP-DWELLING ENTERED
MAN CHARGED WITH OFFENCE. ARRESTED BY r DETECTIVES. While Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Blanchard were sitting in the dining-room of their shop-dwelling on South Road, New Plymouth, about 10 o’clock on Saturday evening they heard noises in another part of the building. Later they found the bedroom had been ransacked, entrance having been gained through the window. The police were called in to investigate yesterday morning, with the result that about 11 o’clock Detectives Mciklejolm and Kearney arrested Patrick Joseph Hawkins, described as a seaman and labourer. Before Mr. O. B. Flygcr, J.P., yesterday afternoon he was charged with breaking and entering the property and stealing two handkerchiefs, one medal and a writing cabinet valued at £1 and belonging to Beatrice E. M. Blanchard. On the application of Detective Mciklejolm a remand till to-morrow week was granted.
