DARGAVILLE DOINGS

PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY’S RACES,

Remarkably good fields are carded, for the Dargaville meeting, -which, opens today, and the northern club should have a good meeting. ° « • •• *• *

The maiden event is a puzzler and the winner will be hard to sort out. ALLOY has been threatening to win’ for a long time and his chance should be here. Vanessa and Lord Willonyx are reputed to be speedy and. may offer most opposition to the top-weight. « # # • ••

A reproduction of his best form would give Neil a great chance in the Toka Toka Handicap. GOOD IDEA won & double at the Bay of Islands meeting and seeras partial to the northern courses. Of the others, Stimulant seems the most likely one to upset th© favourites.

Two recent winners in Brampton and Gay Idea stand out in the Kaihu Hack Cup, but Brampton may be reserved for later engagements. Frothblower reads as well as any of the others, but there is no doubt GAY IDEA will be the public’s elect.

Eight are left in the Dargaville Cup and the list is headed by King Willonyx, a useful and consistent middledistance performer. Haviland won the Matamata Hack Cup in good style and seems to be improving. The sprint may suit Llanore better, but both Nassock and Brampton must be considered at the weights. However, form indicates that KING WILLONYX, Haviland hud Llanore will' be in the money.

The Settlers’. Handicap caters for local horses and Archeen has been weighted 661 b. above the minimum. He ran three good races at Kawakawa. ORATION is sure to be improved by his outings at that meeting and Frothblower and Paper Dart must also be considered. However, the top-weight* are likely to be hard to beat.

With 8.10 in the Avoca Handicap Llanore is especially well treated after her win at Bay of Islahds with 9.4. Big Bertha is consistent and in form and Tetrarchate goes along fast. Gay Idea, Carl ’dem and Hampton Park all have pace, and it may be the lastmentioned that gives most trouble to LLANORE and Tetrarchate.

Form shown earlier in the day should throw some light on the Awakino Handicap. Gay Idea, Frothblower, Land Aieasure and Good. Idea should all be worthy of consideration, and the winner may come'from this quartette.

The Hobson Handicap concludes the first day’s programme, and if BRAMPTON were reserved for this race he would be very hard to beat. Owairaka may need a race or two,' but Nassock, Neil and Hampton Park will all be backed if started.
