MR SNOWDEN RETICENT; ALTERNATIVE PLANS OF PAYMENT By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Feb. 15. Mr. Snowden is inaccessible to inquiries as to what negotiations al‘e afoot respecting the Australian war debts, but the Treasury definitely says that it had no communication on the subject. Unofficial circles suggest that in addition to the short moratorium idea there is an alternative of extending the period of repayment from 35 to 62 years, tho same as Britain’s arrangement with America. This would not interfere with the interest /rate of £4 18s 4d, but Would mean a substantial relief in the greater spread of the amortisation charge of £1 18s per cent. Which course Mr. Snowden favours may emerge at question time in the House of Commons on Monday or Tuesday.
