CENTRAL COMMITTEE BEARS COST.

In the course of a statement to the City Council last night the Mayor, Mr. Graham, said Hie whole cost of the refugee relief In Palmerston North was being borne ’by the central relief ■ committee in Wellington. 1 . ■ = '■ , His ;aim was to have the camp at the showgrounds evacuated witliin a ; fortnight. Able-bodied refugees were needed for restoration work, but womens would have to be kept here for some time longer. As soon as houses were lit for occuptl- z tion families would be drafted back. The Mayor has received a telegram from the Red Cross, Wellington, stating that the there had reached saturation point, and advising a diversion of further refugees to other centres where accommodation is available.
