ABLE-BODIED MEN WANTED

NEEDS OF EARTHQUAKE AREA.

Wellington, Feb. 17. - The necessity for the return of all able-bodied men to the earthquake-area was stressed by several speakers at today’s meeting of the- Wellington Relief Fund Committee, ai’d there was also a general discussion on the difficulties of billeting. ' ■ ‘ . It was generally agreed that Wellington had received' all the refugees it could accommodate, and it was decided if possible to divert future refugees to other, cities. GOVERNMENT AID APPRECIATED MESSAGE TO PRIME MINISTER Wellington, Last Night. The Prime' Minister has received the following letter from; the Hawke’s Bay County Council; “I. have the honour, to inform you that, .the. Hawke’s Bay County Council 'at. its last meeting resolved to thank you fll| d the Government and its officials, for the help being rendered to'Haw'ke's Bay during the earthquake disaster. —A. H. Forbes replied: “I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter, and desire, to express to the Hawke’s Bay County Council my sincere thanks, and also those of .the Government, for the kind expressions conveyed in respect to the services performed* by the, Government officials during the recent earthquake disaster.”,
