19 MEN RETIRING FROM SERVICE.

Following the placing of the cable steamer Iris on the market fa? sale, 10 of the complement are retiring from the Pacific Cable Board service, including Captain IL R. Hughes, the purser, chief engineer, cable foreman and chief jointer. All have been in the service for 28 years. Pending the sale of the vessel and the transfer of the 13 remaining members of the permanent staff, the vessel will be under the charge of the chief officer. Air. W. Oliver.
